Junior Year Journal

Monday, August 28, 2017

Since September is almost dawning upon us and college application season is coming up, I've decided to start a new journal for senior year. I always love starting new journals because of the crisp, new pages, clean un scratched covers, and unlimited potential creativity. It's always hard though, not knowing what to put on the first page, or how to make the journal yours, with your style and originality, but somehow I manage.

But because I've already finished my last journal, I thought it would be the perfect time to show everyone pages from my old journal now. It spanned my 11th-grade year and had a lot of significant memories. So I decided to share with y'all a big part of my life! Journaling really helps me wind down, and it's always fun to go back months later and look at how different your life was before, how different your problems were.

Sing

Sunday, August 20, 2017

I only watched this movie on a whim, before I'd never had the urge to see it.But since I had a growing fixation on Seth MacFarlane and made it my mission to watch every project he's been a part of,  decided to watch the movie on Netflix, and I'm so glad I did.

The movie had a really interesting plot, and at some points even had me wondering "What's gonna happen next?" and "How is Buster gonna fix this?". The covers for the songs were absolutely amazing too, and because of this movie, I have a ton of new songs on my music library, some from the soundtrack and even the originals. But the best part about the movie, in my opinion, were the characters.

All of the characters had complex and relatable real life issues that made their stories feel even more heartfelt. Rosita was a stay at home wife who stayed home to take care of her kids for her husband who never acknowledged her. And she always wondered what her life would've been like if she had pursued her dream. Buster was a grown up Koala following his childhood dream of reinventing the magic the theater brought him when he was a kid, regardless of what hurdles he had in front of him. Johnny was a teen struggling with telling his dad that he didn't want to be part of the family business, AKA being a part of his criminal gang. Ash was in a mentally abusive relationship with her boyfriend who didn't let her shine and showcase her talent. Mike was just a street hustler who was a bit bitter with life and waiting for his big break. And Meena was just a shy elephant with a strong, powerful voice who couldn't get over her fear of singing in public.

It is a rare occurrence when I like every character in a movie/story. Every character was likable and their stories each felt unique. Sing was one of the best movies of 2016 for me.

It has already been announced that Sing 2 is scheduled to release in 2020 since the hype around the first one did so well. I already know what I want from the next movie.  The first movie was all about the characters personal stories and problems, so I feel like on the second one they should continue with that. I'd love if they could show if Gunter had some conflict that wasn't brought up in the first film. He was the only main character without one. I've also said it'd be cute if Ash and Johnny would start a relationship, definitely interesting at least. Also want more emotional scenes from Buster with memories of his dad, so that it will motivate him. I'm not sure what I want out of Rosita and Mike but I'm sure whatever they do it'll be good. The first movie actually ended with a cliffhanger with Mike, him and Nancy were escaping from the bear group who were chasing them, it was never confirmed that they got away.

Nonetheless, I'm excited for whatever the writers and creators of Sing give to me. The movie is very high on the list of best animation movies I've ever seen and I think it will stay there for a very long time.
